Introduction

What if the universe conspires to bring us together, not through grand gestures, but through the smallest, most unlikely moments? Mine began with a pixelated photograph on a computer screen.

It was 2004, the dawn of the digital age. Social media and dating apps were still distant dreams. Back then, connections sparked through platforms like mIRC, or later on Microsoft Messenger - clunky profiles, grainy images, primordial symbols, and brief descriptions that hinted at unknown possibilities.

One afternoon, I stumbled upon her profile. Her photo was blurry, her description brief, yet something stirred within me - a pull beyond reason. Compelled by an invisible force, I sent a message.

When she didn’t reply immediately, I closed the chat window, but her image lingered in my thoughts as if tethered to something beneath my skin. Time went by and I could not shake away that uncomfortable feeling.

The next day, her reply arrived. She lived in Finland. I was in Portugal. Thousands of kilometers stretched between us, yet distance seemed irrelevant. Through texts and phone calls our conversations flowed naturally, as though we’d known each other for years.

The pull towards each other was real. What connected us felt inexplicable. It was more than shared words or fleeting attraction, but something deeper, as if two threads in the universe’s grand tapestry had found their destined intersection.

A few months later, that thread had grown thicker. She boarded a plane alone, bound for a country she’d never visited, to meet a man she’d only spoken to online. I still remember how much I longed for her. I still remember the moment she stepped through those airport gates - time seemed to slow as we embraced for the first time. In that instant, the world’s noise faded, leaving only the sense that every decision, coincidence, and twist of fate had led us to that exact moment in time.

Our journey unfolded in ways we never imagined. I relocated to Finland to be with her. Together, we returned to Portugal, then ventured around the globe and settled in China. Our lives weaving across continents. We married, built a life, built a family, and two decades later the bond that began with the single awareness of consciousness remains unbreakable.
